Temperature Rise Laboratory Commissioned

With the introduction of AS/NZS 61439:2016 now only two years away, Weber South Pacific has taken the initiative to install & commission an in-house temperature rise testing laboratory. Providing type tested LV assemblies to the AS/NZS 61439 standard that not only utilize the latest in LV switchgear technology but minimize the footprint required for installation has driven the laboratory installation.

The laboratory has already completed over 50 tests & issued multiple reports to satisfied customers, the company is proud to be able to offer considerably shorter timeframes on custom assembly test documentation than the industry standard. Contact Weber South Pacific today to discuss what can be achieved for your project.

    Weber South Pacific Approved for ISO 9001:2015 Standard

    Weber South Pacific Approved for ISO 9001:2015 Standard

    Weber South Pacific Approved for ISO 9001:2015 Standard

    As the year comes into full swing, Weber South Pacific is pleased to announce the renewal of our ISO 9001 standard certification from ISO 9001:2008 to the latest revised, ISO 9001:2015 standard. This latest approval comes following the end of a successful year for our management team as we continued to transition and maintain key certification aspects of our high-standard organisational structure.

    What does the ISO 9001 standard outline?

    Globally, the ISO 9001 standard is the most widely recognised Quality Management System (QMS) – designed to aid any size organisation in any industry. ISO 9001 is built upon seven quality management principles that centralise around the primary goal of consistently delivering value for customers. These seven quality management principles are:

    • Customer focus;
    • Leadership;
    • Engagement of people;
    • Process approach;
    • Improvement;
    • Evidence-based decision making;
    • Relationship management

    Utilisation of all seven principles will make for easier implementation of a quality management system. The standard is intended to help the organisation to achieve greater value through a stronger customer focus and improved business performance.

    What is the focus of the ISO 9001:2015 Standard?

    Different to ISO 9001:2008, the most recent quality management standard were revised to:

    • Create structure to incorporate and align all different ISO standards for greater compatibility;
    • Improve readability, by making the standard more generic and reducing certain documentation requirements;
    • Identify risks and opportunities for organisations to mitigate or prevent those risks, and take advantage of opportunities to make improvements.

    Previously built around 8 clauses, the ISO 9001:2015 standard is based around 10 clauses with most of these being extended into other ISO standards – reducing documentation requirements involved, enhancing uniformity between standards and establishing a consistent structure. These 10 clauses include:

    • Scope
    • Normative reference
    • Terms and definitions
    • Context of the organisation
    • Leadership
    • Planning
    • Support
    • Operation
    • Performance evaluation
    • Improvement

    The new standards now enable organisations to make their own decision of how to verify ISO requirements are being met; instead of previously requiring a written quality manual, procedures and work instructions.

    Committing to a brighter future

    With a clear and common goal of adding organisation value at no expense to our customers, our team at Weber South Pacific has welcomed the new ISO 9001:2015 standard. Using this as an opportunity to enhance all aspects of business activities, has enabled us to showcase our ability to:

      • Honour our commitment to customers and suppliers;
      • Establish a safe, efficient and welcoming workplace for employees;
      • Deliver high quality products and service;
      • Understand our role as a sustainable and environmentally friendly company in providing a high level or respect and care for the environment and community.

      Fitzgibbon Chase and the Weber South Pacific URD in-ground Pillar

      Fitzgibbon Chase is a residential development on the North Side of Brisbane. It is a community of more than 1300 dwellings designed in conjunction with the ULDA. The development has aimed at providing affordable housing to Brisbane.

      The development utilises a combination of above and underground supply points. With the Weber South Pacific URD in-ground pillar, all components are housed below ground and any potential obstruction is removed.

      The Weber South Pacific URD in-ground pillar uses the diver’s bell principle to create a dry location for the switchgear in an underground environment. With a B class (AS3996) rating, the underground pillar can be installed next to a driveway or footpath with no consequential damage.

      The benefits of the URD in-ground pillar cannot be understated!

        Engineering Excellence Awards Finalist for URD In-Ground Pillar

        Weber South Pacifc’s URD in-ground pillar has been acknowledged as a finalist in Queensland’s premier engineering awards

        Engineering Australia has acknowledged the URD pillar as a finalist in the Industrial Development & Manufacturing category at the awards ceremony on the 13th September 2014. Queensland’s Engineering Excellence Awards are central to providing innovation, development and sustainability in Queensland engineering. Projects located anywhere in the world were eligible for entry, provided that a significant element of the engineering component was completed in Queensland.

        In consultation with Australian utilities, Weber South Pacific has developed an electrically protected supply point as an in-ground installation. Whilst very unobtrusive, it is operationally accessible and safe for the public domain with the added benefit of being functional under storm water run-off and complete flood events.

          Re-Design of fuse switch parallel cable connection tag

          Re-Design of fuse switch parallel cable connection tag

          The widely used double front connection tag (TS Series) has recently undergone a design review. The TS Series tag is widely used in street cabinets where back to back connections of parallel cables are not possible. Weber initiated the re-design in response to customer concerns. Engineering manager Trevor McCall says “The re-design has resulted in the largest phase clearances that are possible on DIN 2 & 3 vertical devices”.

          The new design is able to accept the varying copper & bi-metal lug designs from all manufacturers up to 300mmsq. Both phase clearance improvements & universal connection of varying lugs should provide specifiers, designers & installers with confidence they are using in the best possible solution for their connection requirements. Weber envisages these improvements will help to reduce the possibility of flashover & therefore improve network reliability of our customers.
